변화된 환경 안에서 저장된 시간을 탐구하는 작가, 주안 JOOAHN.

주안 JOOAHN은 인간의 개입 이후 변화된 환경의 상태를 물과 나무, 침식과 비워진 구조를 통해 이야기한다.

물이 지나간 자리, 비워진 공간, 침식된 구조 속에서 환경이 기억하고 있는 시간을 바라보며 작업을 이어왔다.

최근에는 폭포의 침식, 물에 잠긴 나무, 복개된 하천, 딱따구리가 남긴 빈 공간 등을 바라보며 시간이 환경 안에 어떻게 저장되는지 탐구하고 있다.

그의 작업 속 풍경은 자연 그대로의 모습이라기보다 인간과 자연의 시간이 오랜 시간 겹쳐지며 형성된 하나의 환경의 몸(Environmental Body)에 가깝다.

보이는 풍경보다 그 안에 남겨진 시간과 구조를 감각하게 하는 작업을 이어가고 있다.

Biography

JOOAHN (Kwon Jooahn) is a contemporary artist based in Korea.

She received her BFA, MFA, and PhD in Fine Arts from Sookmyung Women's University.

JOOAHN explores stored time within transformed environments.

Her work reflects on environmental conditions shaped by human intervention through water, trees, erosion, and emptied structures.

She has explored traces left behind by water—emptied spaces, eroded forms, and the ways environments retain memories of time.

Recently, she has focused on how time becomes embedded within environments through observations of eroding waterfalls, covered streams, changing water levels, and cavities left behind by woodpeckers.

The landscapes in her work are not representations of nature in its original state. Rather, they resemble what she calls an Environmental Body—formed through the long accumulation of interactions between natural processes and human intervention.

Her work invites viewers to sense the hidden structures and layers of time that remain beneath visible landscapes.
